证严上人于一九三七年，出生于台湾省台中县清水镇。在一九六三年，证严上人依印顺导师为亲教师出家，师训「为佛教，为众生」，证严上人奉持不懈。一九六六年，证严上人创办佛教克难慈济功德会。慈济世界在法师慈悲呵护下，数十年来，一步一步地坚实茁壮；发展为慈善、医疗、教育、人文四大志业，以及国际赈灾、环保、小区志 工、骨髓捐赠八大脚印，透过亲手拔除众生的苦痛，以善与大爱肤慰人间。近年来，证严上人的贡献获得国际间一致推崇；于2011年获美国罗斯福基金会颁赠「杰出公共服务奖」， 并被时代杂志列为2011年全球百大最具影响力人物。2014年获颁国际扶轮社「最高荣誉奖」，肯定证严上人对于人道主义精神与世界和平的贡献。

About Author
Dharma Master Cheng Yen was born in 1937 in a small town in Taichung County, Taiwan. When she was twenty-three years old, she left home to become a Buddhist nun, and was instructed by her mentor, Venerable Master Yin Shun, to work “for Buddha’s teachings, for sentient beings.” In 1966, she founded a charity, which later turned into the Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation, to “help the poor and educate the rich”—to give material aid to the needy and inspire love and humanity in both givers and recipients.
In recent years, Master Cheng Yen’s contributions have been increasingly recognized by the global community. In 2011, she was recognized with the Roosevelt Institute’s FDR Distinguished Public Service Award and was named to the 2011 TIME 100 list of the world’s most influential people. In 2014, she was presented with Rotary International’s Award of Honor in recognition of her humanitarian efforts and contributions to world peace.
Introduction
Grandma’s Mole is the second of the series, Master Cheng Yen Tells Stories; it contains a collection of three stories: “The Mountain Rats and the Leopard Cat,” “The Monkey Thieves,” and “Grandma’s Mole.” Each of these stories is brought to life through colorful illustrations and teaches children wholesome values based on the Master’s teachings. In the third and last story, Grandma's Mole, an ox that was raised by an elderly woman worked hard to repay the love and care it received - it serves to remind children of the importance of filial piety. With easy-to-understand bilingual text (Traditional Chinese with pinyin and English), this book helps non-Chinese readers to learn Chinese and Chinese readers to learn English.
The calf had shiny black fur and always
stayed by Grandma’s side, so she gave
the calf an unusual but interesting name,
“Grandma’s Mole.” One day, a caravan of
heavy carts got stuck in the mud of a stream.
The merchant spotted Grandma’s Mole
and asked him, “If you help me pull the carts out of the stream,
I'll give you a strand of 1,000 coins.”
