Introduction:

This book series brings together carefully chosen teachings by Dharma Master Cheng Yen, drawn from over four decades of talks between 1980 and 2024. Spanning two centuries, it offers thousands of her insights and guidance in response to questions on all sorts of matters.

Volume One covers topics on living and dying. We are born, and we die; we die and we are reborn. Being born is the starting point of death, and death is the beginning of another life. Life and death are natural phenomena. When we look at them with a broader perspective, we will be able to let them go. As such, we can be unhindered and unattached. Though life is limited, wisdom life lasts forever. Thus, for Buddhist practitioners, life and death can be taken more lightly; it is more important to nourish our wisdom life. We must eradicate the defilements in our minds and return to our innocent, pure, intrinsic nature.
