Jing Si Golden Buckwheat Tea sourced its raw materials through a philosophy of non-toxic cultivation, farmer-friendly agricultural practices, and care for the earth. In consideration of farmers' livelihoods, we partner with small-scale Taiwanese farmers to seasonally cultivate Tartary buckwheat. The Tartary buckwheat is harvested during the first season each year and launched as a seasonal product featuring locally grown Taiwanese Tartary buckwheat. This distinguishes it from most commercially available products whose raw materials are primarily sourced from mainland China.

Buckwheat is an annual herbaceous plant belonging to the Polygonaceae family. There are two main varieties: common buckwheat (sweet buckwheat) and Tartary buckwheat (bitter buckwheat). In terms of nutritional value, Tartary buckwheat (bitter buckwheat) is superior to common buckwheat (sweet buckwheat).

Globally, Tartary buckwheat raw materials mostly come from high-altitude mountainous regions in southwestern China. This is primarily because Tartary buckwheat thrives in cool climates and in Taiwan, it can only be grown during the winter. As a result, the yield of Tartary buckwheat in Taiwan is extremely limited, making it a rare and seasonally exclusive agricultural product.

The growth period of Tartary buckwheat is approximately 90 days. When the bitter buckwheat flowers bloom, they are as small as grains of rice and their colors are subtle. One must look closely to appreciate their understated beauty. The mature seeds of bitter buckwheat only form after the plant has withered.

Due to the bitter taste of its seeds, Tartary buckwheat is also known as "bitter buckwheat."

After hulling and deep roasting, the Tartary buckwheat seeds take on a golden appearance and emit a rich, unique aroma. When brewed, the tea takes on a golden hue, which is why it is called "Golden Buckwheat."
